School History
The Woodstock Elementary School (WES) has served the children of Woodstock at the present site since 1957. The school houses students in grades kindergarten through six and has had enrollments as high as 390.The current population is 196 for the 2005-2006 school year.The school has always provided a wide array of programs to enrich and support student learning across the spectrum. Community involvement is very high. Parents and other community members volunteer their time on a regular basis.

Woodstock Elementary School provides academic excellence and opportunity in a safe, caring, and respectful learning environment.We require high standards within a challenging curriculum to provide the educational foundation for students to become responsible, contributing members of society.Through flexible and creative instructional methods, we strive to meet the individual and group learning needs of all our children.

Elementary School , in partnership with family and community, teaches effective communication skills, provides knowledge of how to learn, and encourages students to experience the job of lifelong learning.
Annual Goals
The focus of our school action plan is centered on four specific areas of our curriculum:reading analysis and interpretation, writing effectiveness, mathematics concepts, and problem solving.In addition, improved communication between school and home, the integration of arts and physical education in the core curriculum, and the implementation of differentiated instruction are action plan goals.
Program Structure
WES is currently structured for instruction as follows: We have two daily kindergarten sessions lasting four and one half hours.We currently have two first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and six grades.The classes are grouped into the following teams: K-2, 3-4, 5-6. The teams are supported by two certified special education teachers as well as paraprofessional program assistants in special education and two program assistants.The school began a two-year grade loop.Students will remain with the same teacher and peer group for two years.
Curriculum Highlights
We are implementing a new enrichment model which involves all faculty and staff in working with students in a variety of activities including woodworking, robotics, drama, dance, inventions, and various historical units.A review of our literary program based on the Literacy Network model is underway.WES continues to offer programs in Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, Computer Education and Spanish..
Community Outreach Initiatives
Examples include the Environmental Learning for the Future (ELF) natural science programs, our PTO, Friday workshop activities, Ski Runners, visits to the Woodstock Historical Society, Billings Farm and Museum, Pentangle arts activities, and the Upper Valley Strings program.
