Prekindergarten: Start Here

Prekindergarten registration is a 2-step process:

Step 1

Visit the MVSU PreK page first to complete the application for a spot in a district Pre-K program.

Step 2

If there is space available in the program, the prekindergarten coordinator will contact you to confirm that your child can be enrolled, and then you can proceed with the formal Pre-K to 12 registration process below.

PLEASE DO NOT SKIP STEP 1

If your child is not on the Step 1 initial application list, it invalidates their registration and lottery inclusion (should one be necessary).

Grades K-6: Start Here

First determine if you need to complete an “ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHOICE” application:
(Only available to In-District resident students.)

  1. The elementary school in your town of residence is considered your “home” school. (Bridgewater’s & Pomfret’s “home” school is WES grades K-4, and TPVS grades 5 & 6.)

  2. If you wish to enroll in a MVSD elementary school in a different town than the one in which you live, you must first apply and be approved for Intra-District School Choice.

The school your child attended for prekindergarten does not automatically guarantee entrance to that school’s kindergarten if you are not a resident of that town.

All New Students

  • If you are registering more than one student, regardless of grade or school, you only need one parent account in Alma Start. Each student will have their own registration page and require their own documentation, but you can complete the process from that one parent account.

  • Quite a few questions are solely for mandated state reporting, and not for our own use (e.g. race, ethnicity, etc.). Please answer them so that we don’t have to disturb you with a call to complete the information.

Documents you must upload for all students include:

  • The student’s birth certificate

  • TWO Proof of Residency documents as follows that clearly show the address you are proving:

Category A — One of the following:

  • Purchase & Sales Agreement (only if recent purchase or in process)

  • current property tax bill

  • signed copy of current lease/rental agreement

  • notarized letter from landlord affirming tenancy (even if your “landlord” is a relative)

Category B — One of the following:

  • valid Driver’s License

  • current vehicle registration

  • bank statement (financials withheld)

  • Voter Registration

  • Utility bill showing service address: heating, water, electric, telephone, cable, etc.

Please know that our system keeps all documents confidential and secure, and you are welcome to redact any non-address information you do not want to share before uploading it.

Please remember that you are providing proof of residency, so the documents you provide MUST show the physical location at which you live.

Common items that will be declined include:

  1. Addresses with a P.O. Box.

  2. Items that show only a mailing address with a different town, even if the street address line is the same.

  3. Items that do not show both your name and your physical address (often occurring with screenshots or digital print-outs).
